Website Planning

Need changes made to your website? Here’s how it works

Your hours changed. You want to add a new service, swap out a photo, fix a typo, or add a page — and something that should take ten minutes has somehow been on your list for three months. Getting edits made to a website is one of the most common frustrations business owners have, and it’s almost always more annoying than it needs to be. Here’s why that happens and how to get changes done without the headache.

The kinds of edits owners usually need

Most requests fall into a few buckets: updating information (hours, prices, staff, contact details), swapping or adding images, adding or removing a page, changing text, and fixing something that’s broken or looks wrong. Individually, these are small. The problem is rarely the edit itself — it’s everything around getting it done.

The real roadblock: access and “only my developer can touch it”

Two things tend to get in the way. The first is access — logins to the site, the hosting, and the domain that got set up at launch and then forgotten, sometimes by someone who’s no longer with the company. The second is a belief we hear constantly: that only the person or company who originally built the site is allowed to make changes to it. That second one usually isn’t true, and it traps a lot of owners.

You don’t have to go back to whoever built it

If the company that built your site has gone quiet, gotten expensive, closed down, or just isn’t responsive, you are not stuck. A website you paid for is yours, and as long as the access can be recovered, another team can take it over and make changes — including us. We regularly step in to maintain and edit sites we didn’t originally build. It’s one of the most common ways businesses start working with us: they needed one small change, couldn’t get it done, and discovered they had options.

The one genuine prerequisite is access. If you can recover the logins to your site, hosting, and domain — or you know who has them — most situations are workable. If you’ve lost track of all of it, that’s recoverable too; it just takes a little detective work up front.

What to have ready to get edits done fast

You’ll get changes made quickly if you can provide:

  • A clear description of what you want changed, ideally with the specific page and the exact new text or image.
  • The image files themselves, at full quality, if you’re adding or swapping photos.
  • Access to the site (or a willingness to help track it down).

The clearer the request, the faster the turnaround — “change the phone number on the contact page to X” gets done immediately, while “something feels off on the site” takes a conversation first.

What to expect

Small, well-defined edits are usually quick. Larger changes — a new page, a new feature, a section redesign — take a bit of scoping so everyone agrees on what’s being done before work starts. Either way, the goal is simple: you describe what you need, and it gets handled, without you having to learn how the site is built.

Need edits made — even on a site we didn’t build? We can help. Tell us about your project and we’ll get your website saying what you need it to say.
